~ our holiday weekend in los angeles has ended in a healthy, though certainly temporary, reconstruction of our broken hearts; pico: hiked; orwell: read, tj’s: stockpiled, mani’s: consumed, toi: consumed, cb&tl: consumed, black russians: consumed, evicted roommate: spotted. all that remains is to destroy the memories of a flight full of wailing infants, a blistering santa monica sunburn, and the wasting of three bucks on ‘the mummy returns’; the superstation premiere of sam raimi’s ‘darkman’ will do the job.
~ hot damn, a welcome break from feeling as though an army ants are covering our faces has arrived; tonight, we are flying to los angeles for the weekend. these items have made the agenda: mani’s, rfd, pico blvd, cbtl, the 10, tj’s, toi (sunset), topanga, and macarthur park.
~ hot damn! after a weeks-long struggle to enter our new new york offices , we are celebrating our birthday today six floors above the streets of harlem. as we still lack many facilities, such as furniture and our network, we are updating the log from the break room floor. we have our books and turntables and a brand new val kilmer dvd, so the evening’s office launch party may begin immediately.
~ this is also the first day of our call for an absolute boycott of both envoy properties on venice boulevard in los angeles and u-haul rental on atlantic avenue in brooklyn. they owe us $550.01 and $23.70, respectively. they are scum; it’s people like them ‘what cause unrest’.
~ packing our stuff for the upcoming relocation of operations, so not much time has been spent on the magic box(es). in fact, all time not spent weeping over the overwhelming tasks ahead have been spent investigating an archaic means of communication delivered by, of course, gore vidal [w]
~ as hard as we try, reading rasterweb [w] always makes us feel inept…
~ time spent lately: more and more rain in los angeles, laying out catalog, reformatting the log, finishing up postcard, backing up dvds, downloading mandrake 7.2, finishing up other tidbits of work in anticipation for the upcoming move.
~ well, certain members of the angry red planet have been unselected from their initial jury. of course, we can not speak of what we heard in the court room, so there is no verification that questions such as ‘does anyone on the jury have problems with figures of authority?’ or ‘does anyone feel that if they find a law to be unjust, it should be broken?’ were posed or answered.
~ after this temporary unselection, the very same jury-serving, civic duty-performing members of the angry red planet were driving through culver city and were pulled over and questioned by the police. the cop’s story was that there is a brake light out on the angry red mazda, and that the mazda was speeding down culver boulevard. upon our inspection, no brake lights seemed to be *really* out, so this seems to be a falsification – an exaggeration at least – on the officer’s part; we are currently unable to contest the accusation of ‘speeding’ as our speedometer has not operated since 1997. after a promise to leave the state of california as soon as possible, we were allowed to leave.
~ fifteen minutes after the altercation with the authorities, we were rear-ended on jefferson boulevard in culver city.
~ some of us from the angry red planet were called in to jury selection at the los angeles superior court, and, unfortunately, were subsequently selected for jury. perhaps something can be said for performing one’s civic duty, and that jury duty should be a pleasure. we find that this feeling of pleasure may only occur in cases were a great injustice may be avenged or that a terrible crime is ‘solved’. however, one can imagine certain civil cases arising over the most inane and superficial dispute. in this cause it should be okay to waste the time of the parties involved in the dispute, but the notion that two weeks of the busiest season at the angry red planet must also be wasted – along with county resources and the valuable time of eleven other citizens – is enraging.
~ updates have been coming slowly. it is not that there is lack of abundance of events, but rather, they have come with such senses-shattering mediocrity that we at the angry red planet are reeling – slowly, but reeling – in their wake. life since the ‘holidays’ has been not dreary, but hazy. the east coast weather vengefully laid waste to the immune system of our entire staff, which have grown as lazy as our socal dress code. after a foray through the chilling rural and urban south, we took a flight on delta which did not include the pure vegetarian meals which we had ordered weeks in advance. there was not a 40gb titan hard disk waiting at our offices, despite our hardware supplier’s promises; bitter calls to them revealed that it is on back order, and could not have been shipped, as they had stated it had been earlier. fighting the cold for a few more days left us fumbling through the thesis work – into which no progress has been made – so that when our radiator hose burst on manchester boulevard at 9.30am, we stopped for a few moments to debate about the futility vs. profit of breaking into gasping sobs on the side of the road. instead, we opted for taking the machine to a garage, and we placed our bets…
~ december log has been added to the others in the archive.
~ skies are clear and cold in los angeles…at 6am on the roof of the abandoned train depot next door, i see the snow-capped mountains to the east. with the heat leaves the pressure and the anxiety; left is lethargy and the drift.
~ some visual updates in the thesis section. text to follow soon, we hope…
