zines.
zines don't necessarily defy definition, but the fact that so
many projects fall under -perhaps grudgingly - or label
themselves with -perhaps seeking a certain audience - the
title, it makes it difficult to find a definition that everyone
involved could agree on, as everyone, every zinester that is,
has a highly subjective viewpoint, based mostly on their own
work and the work that they enjoy the best.
the angry red planet might describe them quickly as the following: independently
published - traditionally independent for personal or political reasons
- documents that may be literary or graphic or informational in nature,
expounding pretty much anything conceivable.
it is impossible to delineate the range of purposes behind
them, as they stretch from financial aspirations to social
ineptitude to revolution.
this description is, of course, nothing compared to the
multitude of other opinions available; it may only come in
handy to someone who has appeared here having never seen
the word 'zine' before.
in this case, and in the case of the seasoned zine veteran, the
angry red planet offers some of the finest examples to date.
herein lie excerpts from the angry red planet's zine catalog.
